mmm, theatre

So, remember how I said I'd be going to visit Al to see her in a play (Kaspar, by Peter Handke)? Yeah, it was crazy, in the best way possible. SO confusing and lovely and well-written and beautifully-acted and...and...yeah. I loved it. It was performed in a warehouse. A warehouse! A on-the-outskirts-of-town, unknown-by-me-and-my-cab-driver, huge-and-sparse-and-drafty warehouse. :D I loved it...we followed the actors around in the first act, all over the warehouse (and could interact if we chose to...I did, by default, a few times. Fun!)...and then we sat and watched them (more conventionally) in the second act. The acoustics in the part that housed the second act were amazing -- perfect echoes, right where you wanted them :)). And the script was awesome -- "I want to be somebody like someone else was once". What? :D And it was amazing to see Al in action (for the first time in a scripted play, not like her also-lovely Calithumpians times). I didn't even recognize her in the first scene (throughout, they had white make-up on to which was slowly added a clown-like face).
All in all, yay. SO glad I made it out to see the show.
And then we went to the cast party, which should have been weird for me (not being in the show, or even knowing these people before), but it was also lovely. I really like smaller house parties...and theatre makes everything good. :)
And then it was St. Pat's, and we spent it leisurely (watched a few movies, hung out in the Brum city centre, slept in. All good).

And then I returned home on Thursday to Mountshannon to immediately pick up a bug that's been going through Clai house, and spent Thursday night puking. Mm.
And then I couldn't even feel sorry for myself the next day (though I continued to feel crappy), because everyone else (almost) was sick too. Including a certain housemate who complained ever so loudly about his headache, expecting sympathy although he'd heard me puking the night before. I think not...although I tried to be sympathetic for as long as I could. It didn't last very long. But I'm back to only the one disease now (oh, diabetes), so all is well.

And on Sunday, while I was cleaning his hut, the goat climbed on my back like I was a mountain. Like, actually. Right up there. I could feel him shaking to keep his balance on my shoulder blades while I shifted around, and then I stood up and he slipped to hanging around my neck like those nativity statues of the shepherds with the lambs around their shoulders. Ridiculous.
And it's an ongoing battle to find the holes in the chicken wire through which they keep escaping, and patch them up. Aw. Escaping babies.

Cool.
That's about it for now...sent off a long reply email to Lyna, and a long snail mail letter to B, so my fingers are getting tired. I think it's time for some Being Human (a show about a vampire, a werewolf and a ghost as housemates? Pure genius. :) Seriously, though, it's quite well made and acted. Worth checking out, for sure).

Until next times, mes petits chous.

me

the long-time-no-post post

Hey. Long time no see...sorry about that. The longer I spend sans laptop the more I think bah, who needs computers anyway? And then I feel like watching some Scrubs or Criminal Minds, and I remember. :)

Anyway, here I am. And the big thing that's happened between that last post and this is that we've acquired some baby animals. A goat, V-toe, and a lamb, Darby, who both have to be bottle-fed for the next few weeks. A neighbour, A, got them as a new experience for her kids, and then realized how much work they are and asked for help. Of course, because I love animals and babies and why not do everything new, I said I'd help out. So now they alternate between her house and ours, and I go over sometimes to do the feeding. They spent the weekend in our front porch area, in a giant cardboard box (M and I spent Friday afternoon trying to work out how to construct something for them from stuff lying around a la chickenwire or cement bricks. We ended up cruising through Scarriff on a box-hunt. It worked out well. :)). Then we had to put a smaller box in the big box, so the little lamb (who'd caught a cold) was warm enough. Aw. So, all was lovely until I tried to feed them on my own (especially at the midnight feeding)...and V-toe wouldn't drink any milk no matter what I did...and in my exhausted and worried emotional state I over-reacted, bursting into tears and bawling "I'll never be able to have babies, I make a terrible mother, this goat is going to die on me!". Mm. Rational. Anyway, he eventually did start eating and then I was really happy and able to put things back in perspective. I'll try and get pictures of them up here...I made a video, but the Internet apparently doesn't like it cause it won't download. Whatever.

Ok. In other news, I finished the play (to be performed by the Camphill Mountshannon community, hopefully as part of the Mountshannon Arts Festival in the latter half of May). I'm excited to do a read-through (later this week), mostly cause it's the first time I've seriously written a play with more than a handful of characters (there are 10, maybe 11 in this one)...and cause I tailored characters to community members...so I want to see how that goes down. :)

Also, off to see Al next week, in her to-be-performed-in-Edinborough-Fringe-Fest play...it sounds amazing, and I'm so excited I can't even think about it or I squeak. Also, the last play I've seen was the one done by the Mountshannon theatre group, called "Rosie and Starwars". Totally Irish, mm, and definitely community theatre. Not so mm...but it had its moments, and a few good actors. Worth it, anyway, as theatre always is. And then Al and I get St. Patty's together! Huzzah!

Also, might be moving into the other house (Inis) in the community, because a new resident is in a trial stage and if she comes another female coworker is needed down there. Not yet sure how I feel about that...I want to experience Inis life, cause it has a totally different rhythm than in Clai...but I feel really comfortable around R. Almost like I just fit in with her kids. And we all know how I like letting adults deal with responsible things and deciding what to do and all that. :) Anyway, I don't know. I'll keep you all posted, anyway.

And that's about all I can think of right now.
I hope all is well with all of you.

Love you and miss you, to pieces.

LOVE,
me
